Compulsory insurance is a requirement under Thai law for all vehicles. It encompasses fundamental aspects, primarily providing coverage for injuries to occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, as well as injuries to other individuals resulting from the vehicle’s usage. The coverage amount is notably limited.
Voluntary insurance, on the other hand, is optional. Depending on the chosen coverage types, it may include compensation for damage to the insured vehicle regardless of fault, damage to a third-party vehicle if the driver of the insured vehicle is at fault, liability for injuries resulting from a car accident where the driver is at fault, and protection against the loss of or damage to the vehicle due to theft, fire, or natural disasters.

Class 1:
- Primary Coverage: Class 1 holds the top position in Thailand’s voluntary car insurance hierarchy.
- Coverage: It provides comprehensive coverage for both own-damage (damage to your own vehicle) and third-party liability.
- Additional Protection: This class often encompasses additional protection against theft, fire, collision damage, and various risks like floods and natural disasters.
- Suitable for: Ideal for new or high-value vehicles, as well as individuals seeking extensive and all-encompassing protection.
Class 2:
- Primary Coverage: Class 2 is a commonly chosen category in Thailand’s voluntary car insurance system.
- Coverage: It focuses on third-party liability and does not include own-damage coverage.
- Additional Protection: May include coverage against risks such as theft and fire.
- Suitable for: Suited for vehicles with moderate market values, and owners seeking liability protection without coverage for own-damage.
Class 2+:
- Primary Coverage: Class 2+ represents an enhanced version of Class 2.
- Coverage: It covers both third-party liability and own-damage to the insured vehicle.
- Additional Protection: May include coverage against risks like theft, fire, and other perils.
- Suitable for: Recommended for vehicles with moderate values and owners desiring broader coverage, encompassing own-damage.
Class 3:
- Primary Coverage: Class 3 stands as one of the more basic categories in Thailand’s voluntary car insurance.
- Coverage: It solely covers third-party liability for bodily injury and property damage, excluding own-damage to the insured vehicle.
- Suitable for: Suited for older vehicles or those with lower market values.
Class 3+:

- Coverage: It covers both third-party liability and own-damage to the insured vehicle.

For whom is Car Insurance Type 1 recommended?
- For a new car under 5 years old:
- This type of insurance is ideal for recently purchased vehicles that are less than 5 years old. The risk of expensive repairs in case of damage or theft is higher for newer cars compared to older ones. Additionally, drivers need to be well-acquainted with the operation and handling of brand-new vehicles, contributing to an increased risk factor and potential high costs in case of damage.
- For new drivers with limited experience:
- Regardless of the vehicle they drive, new drivers with limited experience face a higher risk of accidents. Car Insurance Type 1 is recommended for new drivers to safeguard against potential high costs resulting from mistakes that may occur during the initial stages of gaining driving proficiency.
- For frequently used and regularly driven cars:
- The risk associated with a vehicle is not solely determined by the driver or the car itself but also depends on the consistent usage over time. If a car is regularly used for long-distance travel or daily commuting, the overall risk factor increases. Individuals who frequently use their cars, especially for extended distances, require comprehensive insurance coverage, making Car Insurance Type 1 the most suitable option.
For whom is Car Insurance Type 2+ appropriate?
- A car frequently utilized
- A car that is under 7 years old
- A car often parked in areas deemed risky or lacking gated security, such as vehicles consistently parked on the roadside or in public spaces.
Who is eligible for Car Insurance Type 3+?
- A vehicle that is regularly in use
- A vehicle that exceeds 7 years in age
Accidents are unpredictable and occur frequently in Thailand. According to data from the Department of Highways, there were 20,457 major and minor accidents in the previous year alone, with an average of 50-60 collisions per day. While compulsory insurance (commonly known as Por Ror Bor) is a legal requirement, its coverage is limited. Opting for voluntary insurance provides an opportunity to extend coverage, addressing third-party property damage, damage to your insured vehicle, and even protection against theft and fire damage. Acquiring car insurance in Thailand ensures peace of mind, as it guarantees that in the event of unforeseen incidents, you would have adequate financial resources to cover expenses and more.

Once the insurer approves the policy, customers can proceed with filing a claim. Our Care Specialist will provide you with detailed information about the coverage at that point.
While many individuals tend to wait until their car insurance policy expires before obtaining a new one, it is more advantageous to renew the policy prior to expiration. We advise renewing your insurance policy at least one month in advance to ensure uninterrupted coverage. This proactive approach guarantees that your car remains insured consistently.
Voluntary excess in car insurance refers to the amount of money that a policyholder agrees to pay out of their own pocket towards the cost of a claim, in addition to the compulsory excess set by the insurance provider. While compulsory excess is determined by the insurer, voluntary excess is chosen by the policyholder during the insurance application process.
Opting for a higher voluntary excess can often result in lower insurance premiums, as it demonstrates to the insurance company that the policyholder is willing to contribute more towards the cost of potential claims. However, it’s crucial to strike a balance between the excess amount and the affordability of out-of-pocket expenses in the event of a claim.

- We extend a 12-month warranty for repairs performed by both our preferred garages and dealer garages. In case you choose to repair your vehicle at another dealer garage not on FUSE’s list, kindly contact us at least 24 hours in advance so that we can coordinate arrangements with the garage to accommodate your needs.
Typically, car insurance in Thailand does offer coverage for accidents involving a third party, regardless of whether the insured is at fault or not. However, the extent of this coverage depends on the type of policy you select. Generally, it includes third-party liability coverage, providing protection for other drivers, passengers, or pedestrians affected by an accident caused by the policyholder. Certain policies may also incorporate options for personal accident coverage and protection for damages to the insured vehicle.
Vehicle insurance plans like Type 1, Type 2+, and Type 2 provide coverage for loss or damage resulting from fires. Additionally, both Type 1 and Type 2+ car insurance policies extend coverage to damages caused by floods and other natural disasters.
A Type 1, Type 2+, and Type 2 car insurance policy will extend coverage for loss or damages resulting from theft.
The majority of motor vehicle insurance policies in Thailand include coverage for personal accidents and medical expenses arising from road accidents. However, there may be instances where the overall coverage amount is insufficient for individuals with a history of frequent accident claims. With FUSE, you have the flexibility to tailor your policy, increasing the coverage amount for personal accidents or medical expenses to align with your specific requirements.
Drivers between the ages of 20 and 70 with a valid driving license (in certain instances, a driver’s license valid for more than 2 years is necessary), a clean record with no history of license revocation, no more than 3 at-fault insurance claims in the last 12 months, and the vehicle being registered in Thailand.
Several factors influence the cost and premium of car insurance, including driving experience, claims history, vehicle model, age, purpose of use, and the chosen insurance plan. Typically, FUSE customers can anticipate paying anywhere from 1,707 Baht to 18,916 Baht for policies with high sums insured.
You can finalize the acquisition of your car policy in just 5 minutes. Simply review your car insurance quote online, tailor your coverage according to your preferences, proceed with the payment, and await our email confirmation. We will promptly respond and dispatch the documents to you within 7-14 working days or instantly if you opt for an e-policy. Occasionally, FUSE may request an in-person, photographic, or video car inspection prior to initiating the coverage.
